What do you think of ear candles?
Ear candles are hollow candles that are placed into the external ear canal and lit at the opposite end. The lighted candle is thought to create a vacuum that draws cerumen (ear wax) and other impurities into the hollow candle. A dark brown waxy substance purported to be cerumen is left in the stub of the candle. Ear candling is becoming quite popular, but is it effective and is it safe?
The answer to this question was sought in a recent study (Laryngoscope 106:1226-9, 1996). Results indicated that ear drum measurements in an ear canal model did not produce negative pressure. A limited trial in eight ears show no removal of cerumen from the external ear canal - the brown waxy substance turned out to be candle wax!! A survey of 122 ear, nose and throat specialists identified 21 ear injuries resulting from ear candle use (13 cases of burns of the auricle and external ear canal, 7 partial or complete occlusions of the ear canal with candle wax, and one ear drum perforation.
Clearly these results indicate that ear candling is neither effective or safe.

Eczema
Eczema is a general term encompassing various inflamed skin conditions. One of the most common forms of eczema is atopic dermatitis (or "atopic eczema"). Approximately 10 percent to 20 percent of the world population is affected by this chronic, relapsing, and very itchy rash at some point during childhood. Fortunately, many children with eczema find that the disease clears and often disappears with age. Eczema.net

Endometriosis
Endometriosis is a condition where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus (the endometrial stroma and glands, which should only be located inside the uterus) is found elsewhere in the body.
Endometriosis lesions can be found anywhere in the pelvic cavity: on the ovaries, the fallopian tubes, and on the pelvic sidewall. Other common sites include the uterosacral ligaments, the cul-de-sac, the Pouch of Douglas, and in the rectal-vaginal septum. endometriosis.org

Epilepsy
The primary defining characteristic of the neurological disease epilepsy is the occurrence of seizures. A seizure takes place when many neurons in the brain grow overexcited and discharge at one time. The most prevalent theory of causality centers on an excess of excitatory neurotransmitters (e.g., glutamate, aspartate) and/or a deficiency of inhibitory neurotransmitters (e.g., GABA, or gamma-amino butyric acid, and taurine). Among the 2.5 million Americans with epilepsy, there is a wide variation of seizure type, severity, and frequency. Some people may experience only one seizure in their lifetime (in most cases such as this, the cause is not epilepsy), while others may experience seizures on a daily basis.
