Sarcoidosis

Sarcoidosis is a disease due to inflammation.

The disease can attack any organ of the body in any location. The disease is characterized by the presence of granulomas, small areas of inflamed cells. They can be either inside the body or son the body's exterior, appearing as sores on the face or shins. But sarcoidosis is most frequently found in the lungs.

Pulmonary sarcoidosis can cause loss of lung volume (the amount of air the lungs can hold) and abnormal lung stiffness.

Granulomas can appear on the walls of the alveoli (small air sacs in the lungs) or on the walls of the bronchioles (breathing tubes in the lungs). They also appear in the lymph nodes in the chest, causing them to enlarge.

Sciatica

Dr. Abelson's Sciatica Treatment Blog

Consider peripheral nerve entrapment to be the primary cause. Active Release Technique has revealed that Sciatica is more often caused by peripheral nerve entrapments rather than by nerve route entrapments at the Foramen and Disc.

Significant improvement or resolution in Sciatica cases, within only two or three patient visits, is not uncommon when ART is used to free up the peripheral entrapment sites. In fact, for many of our previous patients that had been diagnosed with disc problems, we have seen complete resolution of all symptoms.

Some of the common sites for peripheral entrapment of the Sciatic nerve can be found:

  • Between the hamstrings.
  • Attached to the Adductor Magnus and hamstrings muscles.
  • Attached to the Superior Gammelus muscle as the Sciatic nerve passes over this muscle.
  • Attached to the Piriformis muscle as the Sciatic Nerve passes under or through the Piriformis muscle.

Scoliosis

Scoliosis is not a disease – it is a descriptive term. All spines have curves. Some curvature in the neck, upper trunk and lower trunk is normal. Humans need these spinal curves to help the upper body maintain proper balance and alignment over the pelvis. However, when there are abnormal side-to-side (lateral) curves in the spinal column, we refer to this as scoliosis. Scoliosis.com

Shingles (See Herpes Zoster)

Shingles is another name for a condition called "herpes zoster." It causes a painful rash. You can only get shingles if you had chickenpox in the past.

After you have chickenpox (usually as a child), the virus that causes it stays in your body in certain nerve cells. Most of the time your immune system keeps the chickenpox virus in these cells. As you get older, or if your immune system gets weak, the chickenpox virus may escape from the nerve cells and cause shingles.

Most people who get shingles are more than 50 years old or have a weak immune system. For example, you might get shingles if you have cancer, take medicines that weaken your immune system or have the virus that causes AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome). familydoctor.org

Shin Splints

Shin splints are commonly caused by muscle imbalances, pronation, insufficient shock absorption (worn out shoes) and toe running. Anterior shin splints are often caused by a muscle called the Tibialis Anterior. Fibers from the Tibialis Anterior tear away from the periosteal (outer surface of the bone) attachment surface.

As these fibers heal, they often become fibrotic, making it difficult for this muscle to lengthen normally. This makes the probability of future shin splints more likely. The same holds true for posterior shins splints where the tibialis posterior is often involved.

With ART treatments adhesions are broken down allowing the muscle to lengthen, thereby reducing the probability of future injuries. Icing, reducing mileage, avoiding hills, correcting gait imbalances such as pronation, and stretching are all essential components to correcting this problem.

Sjogren's (pronounced show-grins) Syndrome

Sjogren's (SHOW-grins) syndrome is a disorder of the immune system often defined by its two most common symptoms — dry eyes and a dry mouth.

Yet Sjogren's syndrome is more than just a simple set of symptoms. It's a disease that often accompanies other autoimmune disorders — rheumatoid arthritis, lupus and others. These rheumatic diseases are marked by inflammation of your connective tissues, and it's common for people with Sjogren's syndrome to also have a connective tissue disorder.

In Sjogren's syndrome, your immune system attacks healthy tissue. The mucous membranes and moisture-secreting glands of your eyes and mouth are usually affected first, resulting in decreased production of tears and saliva. This can lead to problems from difficulty swallowing to dental cavities to light-sensitive eyes to corneal ulcers. Sjogren's syndrome can also result in damage to tissues of your lungs, kidneys and liver. MayoClinic

Sore Throat

  • The best offense is a good defense. Maintain good health, take basic supplementation, and avoid stress.
  • Zinc gluconate lozenges every 2 hours.
  • If a cold has you down-rest, drink fluids, and stay home if that is what your body tells you to do.
  • Vitamin C, as much as can be tolerated every 2 hours daily without causing diarrhea.
  • Echinacea, standardized capsules, 2 to 4 capsules at onset and 1 to 2 capsules every 4 hours; an echinacea tea can be made 4 times a day until symptoms are gone. Echinacea is not for chronic use.
  • Astragalus, ome people who are under stress take this indefinitely. Long-term use has not been subjected to study. A tea can be made once a day.
  • If exposed to a cold, consider Ganmaoling.
  • Consider taking N-acetyl-cysteine.

Stroke

Stroke is the third leading cause of hospitalization in the United States. A stroke is defined as the sudden reduction of blood flow to a portion of the brain. There are two main types of strokes: ischemic (also known as thrombotic) and hemorrhagic. A stroke of any type is an extreme medical emergency, and prompt treatment is imperative. Although hemorrhagic strokes account for only 15% of all strokes, they have a much higher mortality rate. There are two subcategories of hemorrhagic stroke: intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) and subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). Although ICH and SAH are very similar, they generally result from different causes. (Life Extension Foundation)
